Tessa finishes her Grand Champion title

IntCH GCH CH Hollyhock Tresor De Lotus

Congratulations to IntCH GCH CH Hollyhock Tresor De Lotus “Tessa” for finishing her Grand Champion title at the Pasadena Kennel Club shows.  Thank you to judge Christina Martinez for awarding Tessa Best Opposite this day from an entry of 10 bichons and Tessa getting the final defeat she needed to complete her title.  Tessa had been sidelined for several months as she gave birth to her first litter (sired by IntCH GCH CH Hollyhock Alfa Romeo).  It was nice to see Tessa back in the ring with her handler Dorinne Waterman.

Chipper goes to the Rainbow Bridge

Little Chip and Chipper

Today our first rescue boy, Chipper, quietly passed over the Rainbow Bridge after a morning watching over the puppies and an afternoon napping in the warm California sunshine with mommy. We think he hung on to see the last of the pups in our current litter find their new homes. Gosh, he LOVED the puppies. His lifetime battle with a weakened immune system began after a bad rabies vaccination. We nursed him through life with many ups and downs and he taught us SO MUCH about medicine, nutrition and holistic practices. Through it all he remained the happiest, most proud bichon in our pack. He was almost 12 years old. We will miss him dearly and we hope to greet him one day at the Rainbow Bridge. Rest in peace sweet, sweet Chipper.

CH Hollyhock Alfa RomeoCH Hollyhock Alfa RomeoCH Hollyhock Alfa Romeo

CH Hollyhock Alfa Romeo “Romeo” continues to mature and is working toward his Grand Champion title. With his majors behind him, he is also currently ranked as the #1 Owner Handled Bichon Frise in the country. Romeo seems to love the show ring and has racked up several Best of Breed wins and Owner Handler Group placements. Our hats go off to Tony and Anne Platt for letting us show their beautiful puppy (from our special girl Holly) and to Lianne Bondurant for keeping his coat in show condition. Team Romeo is on the run for 2019!

This year Hollyhock was represented at the Bichon Frise Club of San Diego’s 50th and 51st specialty shows by 8 year old IntCH GCH CH Hollyhock SHE Returns “Holly” and her son, 18 month old CH Hollyhock Alfa Romeo “Romeo”. It was a BIG show this year with nearly 50 entries and lots of tasks for Deb and Linda to tackle behind the scenes to make sure the event was a success. There wasn’t much time to show more dogs so we decided to focus on Holly and Romeo. They did not disappoint, with Holly taking Best Veteran Bitch in both shows and Romeo taking an Award of Merit up against some amazing specials, including the dog that won the breed at Westminster, “Donald”. We have high hopes for Romeo this year as he continues to mature in the show ring.

Congratulations to our Miss Emma and her sire Romeo on the arrival of 2 boys and 3 girls on Superbowl Sunday! Emma seemed in no hurry to get these babies delivered but she pulled it off in time for us to relax and enjoy the Superbowl. Pink girl, the first to arrive, was full of herself from the get go…a future cheerleader perhaps?

Sparkles first litter has arrived

CH Scarlets White Diamond Of Lotus CH Scarlets White Diamond Of Lotus

Congratulations to Sparkles and Getty on their first litter. Sparkles had a restless night last Monday and delivered 2 girls and 2 boys the next morning. Mommy and babies are all doing fine. Tessa, Sparkles’ roommate, is nearby with her 5 pups and both mothers seem to have a common bond as it is the first time for each of them. Lily Lee, their human mommy is attentive to their every need and seems to be enjoying her first litters as a bichon breeder. Linda and Deb will continue to mentor her using the best practices of Hollyhock Bichons.
