Congratulations to Hollyhock Alfa Romeo, “Romeo” for his awards during his conformation debut at the 2018 Bichon Frise Club of San Diego specialty shows. Having just turned 6 months old, Romeo did not seem rattled by all the commotion of the dog show. His family, Anne and Tony Platt, kept their distance as Haemi Choi groomed him and handled him in the ring. Rommy received wonderful comments from the judges and was awarded Best Opposite Puppy in Sweepstakes and in Conformation at both shows. Great start little man!

Little Chloe, Hollyhock Be Dazzled, made her conformation show debut at the 2018 Bichon Frise Club of San Diego specialty shows. The competition was tough with 9 bitches in Sweepstakes and 29 bitches in the regular classes. Having just turned 6 months old, it was a long shot for Chloe to bring home any ribbons, but she still seemed to have fun.  Many thanks to her family, Fran and Oscar Prada for coming all the way from Northern California to support the San Diego specialty.

Congratulations to Holly (GCH Hollyhock SHE Returns) for stepping back in the show ring after taking some time off to produce some wonderful puppies. At the 2018 Bichon Frise Club Of San Diego specialty shows Holly surprised us by taking a 5 point major when she was awarded Select Bitch after competing from the Veteran Class.  She also took home prizes for Best Veteran Bitch and Best Brood Bitch (showing off her boy Romeo and her girl Lucie), and participated in the Parade of Title Holders. Then on Saturday and Sunday she was an ambassador for the breed in the Meet The Breed booth at the Silver Bay Kennel Club event.   Holly’s still “got it” going on!

Chloe, Tessa and Sparkles had some tough competition going up against 15 bitches in the classes. Holly surprised everyone by taking Select Bitch after competing from the Veteran Class.  Lucie and Misty also supported the event by showing in the Parade of Champions and Katie in the Parade of Rescues. Special thanks go out to our friends Haemi Choi and Allan Chambers for helping us with grooming and handling chores. Linda and Deb spent the following two days staffing the Meet The Breed booth with various dogs from the Hollyhock gang and met lots of wonderful Bichon enthusiasts.

Hollyhock says goodbye to Austin

Austin RIP 2000-20018Baby Austin in 2000Austin RIP 2000-20018Austin RIP 2000-20018Austin and Travis Farrow

Today we learned of the loss of Hollyhock Lake Of Silver, “Austin“, born 1/8/2000 and went to the rainbow bridge on 2/13/2018.  Here are some photos of Austin and a note from his mom, Debra Farrow.  RIP Austin.

Sweet Austin passed away on January 13, 2018.  He died peacefully in his sleep. He was 18 years and 5 days old.

Austin was a happy dog and lived “The life of Riley” with absolutely no health issues and he never missed a meal!   I can’t help but believe Austin somehow channeled the Westminster judges to award Flynn the win for 2018.  JR and Flynn are the bookends to his sweet Bichon life.

Austin was a loyal companion to the end.  I will always be grateful to Diana McFarlane and Linda Rowe for their expertise and friendship.

Hollyhock Skywalker – New Champion

Congratulations to Scott and Sherry Harris and their boy SKY, the newest Hollyhock Bichon to attain his Champion title.  Hollyhock Skywalker “Sky” was awarded his first major the first day he went in the show ring at 10 months old. He came home 3 months later finishing his Champion title with all his points from the puppy classes. Thank you Ryan Wolfe and Lisa Bettis for taking this young boy on his initial journey into AKC competition. As a bonus, Sky brought home a few Grand Champion points and will be pursuing his GCH and International titles in 2018. His daddy Scott is looking forward to working with him in Agility and mommy Sherry is very happy to have her little “deviled egg” home.

Emma and Riser’s puppies arrive

Friday morning Emma decided something was up and she didn’t feel like breakfast. She did some “nesting” in various spots at Momma Linda’s house and finally settled into the official nesting box for a nap. Within minutes her contractions started and she delivered her two boys in about an hour and 15 minutes. Mommy and babies made a quick trip to the vet for their initial wellness check and everyone was home for lunch and nap time within a few hours. You can see pictures and follow Emma’s litter’s development at the following link:

Holly and Romeo’s puppies have arrived

Sunday morning Holly decided she might as well bring these pups into the world. After all, Linda had called Deb to say she was in labor and Deb seemed to be getting so nervous the past few days. So, within two hours, she popped out 3 girls and 2 boys like it was just another day. No big deal. She paced a bit and had some water between contractions, but once the first baby came out, she was all business. Cleaning and nuzzling each baby before pushing out the next one. She is quite a special girl and a wonderful mommy. Click here to follow the progress of this litter.
